Neodymium Cylinder Magnet - 5mm x 12mm | N45

Magnetic Product Description:

This popular rare earth cylinder has a diameter of 5mm and a height of 12mm. It is an N45 grade rare earth magnet. It has a magnetic flux reading of 6703 Gauss and a pull force of 1.12kgs. It is identified by the AMF magnet part number C-D5H12-N45.

Uses for our rare earth cylinder magnets:

Small cylindrical magnets are well suited to insertion into circular drill holes or round recesses in wood, MDF, acrylic plastic or pretty much any material. They can then act as an attachment point for metal or make a closure mechanism with another magnet with the opposite pole exposed. The magnet can be fixed into position with glue or held in place with a thin veneer covering such as a vinyl overlay.

Magnets are frequently used as clasps or joins, Cylinders are a popular choice for this type of application and are used by woodworkers, hobbyists and model makers. The magnet can be incorporated into the design in such a way as to be virtually invisible and far less obvious than traditional fastening methods.
Rod magnet is another common term for this shape of magnet which has a more focused magnetic field. The depth of magnetic material between the north and south poles creates a magnetic field that is longer than what is produced by other permanent magnet shapes such as a disc of the same diameter.

The most common coating for Neodymium magnets is Nickel + Copper + Nickel (Ni + Cu + Ni). This coating offers the magnet relatively good protection from corrosion and passive applications. If the magnet will be exposed to moisture or liquid then consider the use of an organic coating such as Epoxy. A hard wearing coating, Epoxy is suited to applications where the magnet will come under some friction or knocking.

Magnets are readily available in Blocks, Discs, Cylinders & Rings. AMF Magnetics specializes in the supply of short-run prototype magnets including Arc Segments, various magnetic orientations etc. If you need a magnet size that we don't carry in stock, submit a Design-a-Magnet enquiry for a quote on your custom magnet design.

Neodymium magnets are offered in several different grades. The first section N30-54 has an operating temperature of up to 80 degrees. Most of our stock only goes up to N38. The second section, denoted with the "M" prefix after the grade has an operating temperature 100 degrees. After this the grades are "H", "SH", "UH" & "EH". In order for the magnet to withstand a higher operating temperature, during production more of the raw material PrNd is incorporated as these elements have a naturally occurring resistance to high temperatures.
