No other metal plates or metallic materials are needed for the magnetic tape to work. The Magnafix magnetic tape system is specifically designed to attach two non-magnetic surfaces together. The tape comes in matching A and B parts. These parts attract to each other magnetically. Both parts have a strong Tesa or 3M on the backing, so you can attach each part to your desired non-magnetic surface. The two non-magnetic surfaces can now attach to each other through magnetic bond.
