Alnico Block Magnets
Alnico Block Magnets can also be called bar magnets. They are often used in educational facilities from primary school through to post-graduate work. A wide range of devices relies on the magnetic fields generated by Alnico Bar Magnets. These include power tools, fridges and washing machines.
Alnico Magnets are sensitive to demagnetization and have high residual induction compared to Neodymium Blocks and Ferrite magnets. Alnico Magnets are the weakest of permanent magnets, however, have corrosion resistance and temperature stability. Alnico Magnets have a mechanical strength greater than both Ceramic Magnets and Rare Earth Magnets. This is due to Alnico magnets’ magnetic properties being both hard and brittle. All our Alnico Block Magnets are C5 grade.
FAQ
What are Alnico block magnets made of?
Alnico block magnets are composed of a blend of aluminium (Al), nickel (Ni), and cobalt (Co), hence the name “Alnico.” These magnets may also include iron and small amounts of other elements to boost their performance. The aluminium, nickel and cobalt alloy produces a strong and stable magnetic field that is highly resistant to temperature fluctuations, which makes these magnets ideal for applications where severe cold or heat would otherwise affect the performance of the magnets.
What are the advantages of using Alnico block magnets?
Alnico magnets offer excellent temperature stability, making them ideal for applications exposed to high heat, such as sensors, motors and measuring instruments. They also provide strong magnetic performance and high corrosion resistance, especially useful in demanding industrial environments.
Where are Alnico block magnets commonly used?
Alnico block magnets are widely used in electric motors, guitar pickups, sensors, generators, and scientific equipment. The durability and reliable performance of alnico magnets in varying temperatures make them suitable for both industrial and specialised consumer applications. Some of those applications are in guitar pickups where they are prized for their warm, rich tonal qualities. Different alnico grades produce subtly different sounds, which musicians use to customise tone and response. Alnico magnets are also used in retro-style compasses and instruments, high-end audio equipment, educational tools and science kits and custom knives and tools, because of their strength and longevity.
