Gold (Ni+Cu+Ni+Au)

Gold magnets are Neodymium magnets that have been gold plated. These gold coated magnets are smooth and shiny in appearance. Gold coated magnets are aesthetically attractive and commonly used in art, fashion, decorative and advertising displays. Gold magnetic discs, blocks, rings and cylinders are all available on our website. These magnets have a thin layer of gold applied over the standard Nickel coat and are therefore slightly more expensive.

Gold is a very conductive material and also has excellent water resistant properties. Gold plated magnets are well suited to humid environments where there is moisture in the ambient environment. However gold plated magnets are not resistant to abrasion or scratching so should not be exposed to these environments.

Uses for Gold Magnets

Jewellery makers often utilise gold plated magnets for their superior aesthetic appearance. They can be used as magnetic catches on bracelets or necklaces. There is also a popular range of magnetic earrings which cater to adults who do not have pierced ears.

Gold magnets provide a visual enhancement over the standard Nickel coating with it’s silver appearance. They are popular with many people making hand crafted items. They are able to use gold magnetic attachments without detracting from the appearance of the object.

Gold is one of the least reactive elements and therefore gold magnetic devices are well suited to therapeutic health applications. Gold magnets are less irritating than nickel or other coatings when in contact with skin. Gold coated magnets have been used in Chinese medicine for thousands of years.

Gold is a fantastic conductor of both heat and electricity. Gold plated magnets are well suited to use as electrical contact parts. Magnets are critical elements of many electronic devices from computers to speakers and gold magnets are ideal for this application.

Neodymium magnets

Small Neodymium magnets should be handled with care. Magnets can shatter on impact if allowed to snap together magnetically. All Neodymium magnets can chip and shatter however if magnets are handled in the correct manner their magnetism can last indefinitely. For more information on handling magnets please check out our guide.

The shiny gold appearance of these magnets appeals to children. Great care should be taken to keep small magnets out of reach of children.

Neodymium magnets are the strongest form of permanent magnets available. They are made from strong rare earth minerals which are combined with other stabilising materials to form Neodymium magnets.
Neodymium magnets are available in a range of strengths, these are referred to as the grade of the magnet. Magnetic grades range from N35 through to N52. However there are also a range of grades that delineate magnets which have been treated to withstand higher operating temperatures. More technical information about magnets and magnetic grades can be found in our Knowledge Base and FAQ pages.

In addition to being super strong magnets, Rare Earth magnets also boast superior coercivity. This means they are able to maintain their magnetic power long term as they are resistant to becoming demagnitised.

Custom magnets

Gold magnets are quite commonly ordered as custom magnets. This is due to the limited range of gold plated magnets readily available on the retail market. We are happy to discuss custom magnets and can organise an obligation free quote if you request.
We have a longstanding relationship with many magnet producers that we trust and respect for the quality of their products. We have helped many customers to order high quality magnets that are customised (size, grade, coating) to suit their needs.

The Pull Force listed for each magnet is based on lifting 10mm thick steel from a horizontal surface. Magnets on a vertical surface (of 10mm thick steel) are generally able to hold around only 30% of the pull force listed in the product description. This is due to the effects of gravity and the lack of friction between the surface and the shiny magnet. Read More
