Rare earth magnets are the strongest commercially available, they are very effective. They may actually be too strong for this particular application, as you want a magnet that will allow you to easily break the magnetic field by pulling open the drawer. You could consider our ferrite magnets, or a rare earth neodymium magnet with a lower pull force.
