Magnetic Product Description:

This Neodymium Arc Magnet has an angle of 59.5°.  70.7mm outer diameter, and a 60mm inner diameter, a 5mm thickness and a width of 15mm.  It is identified by the AMF magnet part number 88953.

Uses for our Rare Earth Arc Magnets:

Never judge a book by its cover. Never judge a neodymium magnet by its arc.

These arcs may look like a specialist product with limited applications, however the opposite is true. They are instead one of the most widely used magnets of all. Housed in Direct Current motors these neodymium arc magnets provide the magnetic field to convert electrical current into mechanical power (force and movement). DC motors are durable and affordable technology.

Powering power tools with DC motors has put the means to build and renovate almost anywhere in the world. Lacking mains electricity you can generate electricity with a small, portable petrol powered generator. That’s pretty helpful. DC motors power many white goods like refrigerators and washing machines to reduce the drudgery from many of life’s necessary chores. That’s pretty helpful too.

When you’re listening to your favourite music or watching a good movie instead of hand washing your work clothes, neodymium arc magnets are sitting inside speaker systems to improve the signal (good sound) to noise (bad sound) ratio.

These arcs are also deployed in assemblies called magnetic couplings that operate like a clutch. This intuitive, smooth expression of force is used to transfer or regulate mechanical power. Inside liquid pumps and propeller systems magnetic power is expressed through a physical barrier separating the marine from the non-marine atmosphere, deleting the need for shaft seals which fatigue easily trying to bridge or mediate the two different environments. These neodymium arc magnets are handier than they look.

Smaller neodymium arc magnets are commonly used in DC motors, as sensors and in various hand crafts.

excellent product

Very strong magnet, sufficient to use as a magnet for a fly wheel magneto to power a single cylinder engine, but has to be glued in position as there is no bolt hole to secure magnet.

The most common coating for Neodymium magnets is Nickel + Copper + Nickel (Ni + Cu + Ni). This coating offers the magnet relatively good protection from corrosion and passive applications. If the magnet will be exposed to moisture or liquid then consider the use of an organic coating such as Epoxy. A hard wearing coating, Epoxy is suited to applications where the magnet will come under some friction or knocking.

Magnets are readily available in Blocks, Discs, Cylinders & Rings. AMF Magnetics specializes in the supply of short-run prototype magnets including Arc Segments, various magnetic orientations etc. If you need a magnet size that we don't carry in stock, submit a Design-a-Magnet enquiry for a quote on your custom magnet design.

Neodymium magnets are offered in several different grades. The first section N30-54 has an operating temperature of up to 80 degrees. Most of our stock only goes up to N38. The second section, denoted with the "M" prefix after the grade has an operating temperature 100 degrees. After this the grades are "H", "SH", "UH" & "EH". In order for the magnet to withstand a higher operating temperature, during production more of the raw material PrNd is incorporated as these elements have a naturally occurring resistance to high temperatures.
