Although it can be handy to explore all the magnets available in a particular size if your application has size restrictions. One example of this could be devising a magnetic closure system for a swing door. In this type of application there is normally one critical dimension, such as the thickness, which needs to fit within the confines of the door thickness. However the length or depth of the magnet can vary. Likewise the shape of the magnet may not be important. Thickness/Height 11mm - 20mm
Magnets with a thickness or height of between 11-20mm can be quite powerful depending on the other dimensions of the magnet. In the case of some magnetic products like pot magnets, there are more than just dimensions at play. Pot magnets are especially powerful given their dimensions as their design helps to harness the full capacity of the magnet.
Pot magnets
Hold pot magnets, also referred to as mounting pot magnets, are typically a ring magnet set into a steel cup. The magnet responds to the steel cup and the magnetic field is deflected around the inside of the steel case to the open face of the magnet. This creates an effectively single sided magnet with an augmented magnetic field with both polarities present. The end result being a far more powerful magnet than the ring magnet would be without the steel case.
Pot magnets also lend the magnet a more robust nature. Magnets, particularly Neodymium magnets, are brittle in nature. The steel case of the pot magnet ensures the magnet is able to stand up to some rough handling.
