The Alnico Horseshoe Magnet is a classic permanent magnet designed for educational demonstrations, scientific experiments, industrial applications, and high-temperature environments. Measuring 45mm high, 30mm wide, and 23mm deep, this robust magnet delivers a pull force of 11.8kg while maintaining magnetic performance at temperatures of up to 450°C.
Manufactured from Alnico (Aluminium, Nickel and Cobalt), this horseshoe magnet offers excellent magnetic stability and exceptional heat resistance compared to many other permanent magnet materials. Its distinctive horseshoe shape concentrates the magnetic field between the north and south poles, producing a stronger magnetic field at the working ends while making the pole orientation easy to identify.
This traditional design has made the horseshoe magnet one of the world's most recognisable symbols of magnetism and an essential teaching aid for classrooms, laboratories, universities, and science demonstrations.
Premium Alnico permanent magnet
Dimensions: 45mm (H) x 30mm (W) x 23mm (D)
Strong 11.8kg pull force
Maximum operating temperature of 450°C
Horseshoe design concentrates magnetic strength between the poles
Excellent resistance to heat and demagnetisation
Long-lasting permanent magnetic performance
Ideal for education, laboratory and industrial use
This Alnico horseshoe magnet is widely used for:
School science demonstrations
STEM education
Physics classrooms
University laboratories
Teaching magnetic fields and polarity
Engineering experiments
Industrial testing
Magnetic field demonstrations
Educational displays
Museum exhibits
The horseshoe design is more than iconic—it is highly functional. By positioning the north and south poles close together, the magnetic field is concentrated at the ends of the magnet, increasing the available holding force while clearly illustrating magnetic polarity. This makes it one of the easiest magnet types for demonstrating magnetic attraction, repulsion, field lines, and other fundamental principles of magnetism.
Unlike many rare earth magnets, Alnico magnets retain their magnetic properties at extremely high temperatures, making them suitable for applications where heat resistance is essential. With a maximum operating temperature of 450°C, they are commonly used in laboratories, educational environments, sensors, fixtures, and specialised industrial equipment.
Alnico horseshoe magnets have been used in classrooms for generations because they provide a clear, visual demonstration of how magnets work. Their instantly recognisable shape allows students to easily identify the north and south poles while observing magnetic attraction, repulsion, and magnetic field patterns using iron filings or other teaching materials.
Whether you're equipping a science classroom, conducting laboratory experiments, or looking for a durable high-temperature permanent magnet, this 45mm Alnico Horseshoe Magnet offers reliable performance, excellent heat resistance, and the classic design that has become synonymous with magnetism itself.

The Pull Force listed for each magnet is based on lifting 10mm thick steel from a horizontal surface. Magnets on a vertical surface (of 10mm thick steel) are generally able to hold around only 30% of the pull force listed in the product description. This is due to the effects of gravity and the lack of friction between the surface and the shiny magnet. Read More
Magnet Safety Warning
Magnets can pose a serious swallowing hazard to children. If multiple magnets are swallowed or inhaled, they may attract to each other inside the body, causing severe internal injuries, infection or death.
In accordance with Australian Government and ACCC safety guidelines, children's toys containing magnets must display appropriate warning labels.
Please note: we do not manufacture or sell magnetic toys.
AMF Magnetics accepts no liability for injury, damage or loss caused by the misuse, improper handling or unintended use of magnetic products. Read More
