Neodymium Cylinder Magnet - 3mm x 5mm N50

Magnetic Product Description:

This popular rare earth cylinder has a diameter of 3mm and a height of 5mm. It is an N50 grade rare earth magnet. It has a magnetic flux reading of 6897 Gauss and a pull force of 0.353kg. It is identified by the AMF magnet part number C-D3H5-N50.

Uses for our rare earth cylinder magnets:

Neodymium cylinder magnets typically produce a narrow, deep field that is emitted through the flat surface at each end. This characteristic is put to use in various high-tech applications where they are valued for their strength and relatively small size. Switch mechanisms, safety systems and alarms are all magnetic products that are activated with a magnet of the appropriate size, strength and field depth. Permanent magnets operate independently from outside power sources and, unlike mechanical switches, have virtually no moving parts that can fail over time or with extensive use. Small Neodymium cylinders in proximity to steel or electromagnetic fields can be used to open or close electrical circuits. Reed switch equipment often has a vacuum-sealed switch that is never exposed to corrosive atmospheres and this greatly improves their long term reliability. Permanent magnets can be used to penetrate non-magnetic surfaces to operate the switch remotely. This contactless method of activation is used extensively throughout the motor vehicle industry to operate warning and safety systems. Appliance and computer on/off switches are often operated with magnetically operated reed switches.

NB: Ranges are indicative for product category, please check individual products for specic values within that range.

The most common coating for Neodymium magnets is Nickel + Copper + Nickel (Ni + Cu + Ni). This coating offers the magnet relatively good protection from corrosion and passive applications. If the magnet will be exposed to moisture or liquid then consider the use of an organic coating such as Epoxy. A hard wearing coating, Epoxy is suited to applications where the magnet will come under some friction or knocking.

Magnets are readily available in Blocks, Discs, Cylinders & Rings. AMF Magnetics specializes in the supply of short-run prototype magnets including Arc Segments, various magnetic orientations etc. If you need a magnet size that we don't carry in stock, submit a Design-a-Magnet enquiry for a quote on your custom magnet design.

Neodymium magnets are offered in several different grades. The first section N30-54 has an operating temperature of up to 80 degrees. Most of our stock only goes up to N38. The second section, denoted with the "M" prefix after the grade has an operating temperature 100 degrees. After this the grades are "H", "SH", "UH" & "EH". In order for the magnet to withstand a higher operating temperature, during production more of the raw material PrNd is incorporated as these elements have a naturally occurring resistance to high temperatures.
