Neodymium Cylinder Magnet - 50.8mm x 50.8mm | N50

Neodymium Cylinder Magnet – 50.8mm x 50.8mm | N50

The Neodymium Cylinder Magnet – 50.8mm x 50.8mm | N50 is a powerful rare earth magnet measuring 50.8mm in diameter and 50.8mm in height. Manufactured from N50-grade neodymium, it has a stated pull force of 164kg and a magnetic flux density of 6,485 Gauss. Its substantial cylindrical shape makes it suitable for demanding magnetic holding, positioning and engineering applications.

This product is identified by AMF Magnetics part number C-D50.8H50.8-N50.

Key Features

  • N50-grade neodymium: Provides strong magnetic performance for applications requiring a powerful permanent magnet.

  • 50.8mm diameter x 50.8mm height: Equal diameter and height form a substantial cylinder with a circular contact face.

  • 164kg stated pull force: Suitable for assessing demanding holding applications, subject to the contact surface and operating conditions.

  • 6,485 Gauss magnetic flux density: Provides a reference specification for product selection and technical comparison.

Uses for Our Rare Earth Cylinder Magnets

This large N50 neodymium cylinder magnet is suited to professionally designed applications where strong magnetic attraction is required. Potential uses include:

  • Industrial holding and positioning: Retaining compatible steel components during assembly or setup.

  • Jigs and fixtures: Incorporating magnetic holding into purpose-built workshop and manufacturing equipment.

  • Engineering and prototyping: Developing and testing assemblies that require a powerful cylindrical permanent magnet.

  • Research and technical testing: Use in controlled magnetic experiments by experienced personnel.

Suitability depends on the application, mounting arrangement, contact material and required holding performance.

Handling and Safety

This is an extremely powerful magnet intended for experienced users. Strong attraction can cause serious pinch or crush injuries. Handle with appropriate precautions, prevent uncontrolled contact with other magnets or steel objects, and keep out of reach of children.

The stated 164kg pull force is not a safe working load or lifting capacity. Actual holding performance depends on factors including steel thickness, surface condition, contact area, air gaps and the direction of the applied load.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the dimensions of this magnet?
It measures 50.8mm in diameter and 50.8mm in height. These measurements refer to the circular face and the cylinder’s height respectively.

What does N50 mean?
N50 identifies the neodymium material’s magnetic grade. Holding performance also depends on the magnet’s dimensions and the conditions in which it is used.

Can this magnet hold 164kg in every application?
No. The stated pull force does not guarantee the same holding strength on every surface or in every orientation. Application-specific assessment is required, particularly for vertical surfaces or loads involving movement.

What is the product code?
The AMF Magnetics part number is C-D50.8H50.8-N50.

The most common coating for Neodymium magnets is Nickel + Copper + Nickel (Ni + Cu + Ni). This coating offers the magnet relatively good protection from corrosion and passive applications. If the magnet will be exposed to moisture or liquid then consider the use of an organic coating such as Epoxy. A hard wearing coating, Epoxy is suited to applications where the magnet will come under some friction or knocking.

Magnets are readily available in Blocks, Discs, Cylinders & Rings. AMF Magnetics specializes in the supply of short-run prototype magnets including Arc Segments, various magnetic orientations etc. If you need a magnet size that we don't carry in stock, submit a Design-a-Magnet enquiry for a quote on your custom magnet design.

Neodymium magnets are offered in several different grades. The first section N30-54 has an operating temperature of up to 80 degrees. Most of our stock only goes up to N38. The second section, denoted with the "M" prefix after the grade has an operating temperature 100 degrees. After this the grades are "H", "SH", "UH" & "EH". In order for the magnet to withstand a higher operating temperature, during production more of the raw material PrNd is incorporated as these elements have a naturally occurring resistance to high temperatures.
