Neodymium Disc Magnet - 6mm x 3mm | N45

Neodymium Disc Magnet Description

Neodymium Disc Magnet - 6mm x 3mm | N45 is a compact rare earth disc magnet measuring 6mm diameter x 3mm thick. Manufactured from N45-grade neodymium with a nickel coating, this magnet provides a magnetic flux density of 4,842 Gauss and a pull force of approximately 0.948kg under ideal test conditions. It is suitable for arts and crafts, fridge magnets, carpentry, concealed fixings and small-space installations. This product is identified by AMF Magnetics product code D-D6H3-N45.

Key Features

  • Dimensions: 6mm diameter x 3mm thick
  • Material: Neodymium
  • Magnetic grade: N45
  • Coating: Nickel plated
  • Pull force: Approximately 0.948kg under ideal direct-contact test conditions
  • Magnetisation direction: Through the 3mm thickness (axial)
  • Product code: D-D6H3-N45

Common Applications

This neodymium disc magnet is commonly used for:

  • Fridge magnets, crafts, packaging and lightweight display projects
  • Concealed magnetic closures in cabinetry, joinery and retail displays
  • Recessed timber, gyprock and similar-material installations
  • Small workshop, home and hobby projects requiring a compact holding magnet

Choosing and Using This Product

This 6mm x 3mm disc magnet is well suited to applications that need substantial holding strength in a compact, easily concealed format. Its thickness makes it particularly useful for rebating into timber, gyprock or similar materials, while its disc shape allows it to be slid or repositioned by hand. Install it with an appropriate adhesive or a correctly sized recess, ensuring the magnet’s poles face the intended steel surface or matching magnet. For the strongest result, install the magnet against a clean, flat and sufficiently thick ferromagnetic surface with minimal air gap.

The stated pull force is measured under ideal test conditions. Actual holding performance can be reduced by vertical loading, thin steel, coatings, surface gaps, uneven contact, vibration or elevated temperatures.

Safety and Handling

This compact neodymium magnet is powerful for its size and can attract suddenly to steel or other magnets. Keep it away from children, as small magnets present a serious swallowing hazard. Avoid allowing magnets to snap together, as the nickel coating can chip or crack. Keep magnets clear of electronic devices, bank cards and other magnetically sensitive items.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is this product best used for?

It is best used for compact concealed fixings, fridge magnets, craft projects, cabinetry, timber rebates and lightweight display applications.

Will it hold a small timber door or display panel?

It may be suitable for lightweight doors, panels and closures when paired with a suitable steel strike plate or matching magnet. Performance depends on the panel weight, mounting method, contact area, alignment and any air gap, so testing in the finished application is recommended.

Why buy this magnet?

This N45 neodymium disc offers strong holding performance in a small 6mm x 3mm format, with a nickel coating for added corrosion resistance. Its compact dimensions make it easy to conceal or rebate into a project. Free Shipping from AMF Magnetics is available Australia-wide.

Neodymium Disc Magnet - 6mm x 3mm | N45

I bought 20 of these to use in my 3D Printer projects.

Really happy with the magnetic strength, plus postage was quick and hassle free.

Also, they came conveniently labeled in small bags which I do appreciate.

I'm pretty keen to buy more.

Thanks AMF Magnetics.

NB: Ranges are indicative for product category, please check individual products for specic values within that range.

The most common coating for Neodymium magnets is Nickel + Copper + Nickel (Ni + Cu + Ni). This coating offers the magnet relatively good protection from corrosion and passive applications. If the magnet will be exposed to moisture or liquid then consider the use of an organic coating such as Epoxy. A hard wearing coating, Epoxy is suited to applications where the magnet will come under some friction or knocking.

Magnets are readily available in Blocks, Discs, Cylinders & Rings. AMF Magnetics specializes in the supply of short-run prototype magnets including Arc Segments, various magnetic orientations etc. If you need a magnet size that we don't carry in stock, submit a Design-a-Magnet enquiry for a quote on your custom magnet design.

Neodymium magnets are offered in several different grades. The first section N30-54 has an operating temperature of up to 80 degrees. Most of our stock only goes up to N38. The second section, denoted with the "M" prefix after the grade has an operating temperature 100 degrees. After this the grades are "H", "SH", "UH" & "EH". In order for the magnet to withstand a higher operating temperature, during production more of the raw material PrNd is incorporated as these elements have a naturally occurring resistance to high temperatures.
