Alnico Horseshoe Magnet - 75mm x 38mm x 9mm

Alnico Horseshoe Magnet – 75mm x 38mm x 9mm | High Temperature 450°C

The Alnico Horseshoe Magnet is a classic permanent magnet designed for education, scientific demonstrations, laboratory work, and high-temperature industrial applications. Measuring 75mm high, 38mm wide, and 9mm deep, this durable magnet offers excellent magnetic stability and can operate at temperatures of up to 450°C, making it one of the most heat-resistant permanent magnet materials available.

Manufactured from Alnico (Aluminium, Nickel and Cobalt), this horseshoe magnet is engineered to deliver reliable magnetic performance while resisting demagnetisation under elevated temperatures. Its distinctive horseshoe shape concentrates the magnetic field between the north and south poles, producing a stronger magnetic field at the working ends while making magnetic polarity easy to identify.

This product is identified by AMF Magnetics Part Number 49011.

Key Features

  • Premium Alnico permanent magnet

  • Dimensions: 75mm (H) x 38mm (W) x 9mm (D)

  • Maximum operating temperature of 450°C

  • Classic horseshoe design concentrates magnetic strength

  • Clearly defined north and south poles

  • Excellent resistance to heat and demagnetisation

  • Long-lasting magnetic performance

  • Ideal for education, laboratories and industrial applications

Common Applications

This Alnico horseshoe magnet is commonly used for:

  • School science lessons

  • STEM education

  • Physics demonstrations

  • University laboratories

  • Magnetic field experiments

  • Demonstrating magnetic attraction and repulsion

  • Engineering education

  • Industrial testing

  • Museum and educational displays

  • High-temperature magnetic applications

Why Choose an Alnico Horseshoe Magnet?

The horseshoe magnet is one of the most recognisable symbols of magnetism and has been used in classrooms, laboratories, and engineering environments for generations. Its unique shape brings the north and south poles closer together, concentrating the magnetic field and making demonstrations of magnetic force, polarity, and field lines easy to observe.

Unlike many other permanent magnet materials, Alnico magnets maintain their magnetic properties at extremely high temperatures. With a maximum operating temperature of 500°C, they are ideal for applications where standard neodymium magnets would lose performance due to heat.

Their excellent magnetic stability also makes them suitable for use in sensors, fixtures, scientific equipment, and specialised industrial applications requiring reliable long-term performance.

Perfect for Schools and Science Education

Alnico horseshoe magnets remain one of the most popular teaching magnets thanks to their simple, highly visible design. Students can easily identify the north and south poles while exploring concepts such as magnetic fields, attraction, repulsion, induced magnetism, and magnetic flux using iron filings, compasses, and other classroom equipment.

For many students, the horseshoe magnet is their first introduction to magnetism, making it an essential resource for schools, universities, and STEM programs. Its iconic appearance, durable construction, and exceptional heat resistance ensure it continues to be a valuable educational and scientific tool for years to come.

The product is what I expected but smaller

Hi There

The horseshoe magnets are for my grandson who is almost eleven. He is interested in geology, rocks and minerals. The magnets are for his birthday and I am hoping he will enjoy experimenting with them.

The fishing magnet I bought is for a 13 year old girl, daughter of a friend.

She is wanting to be a volcanologist and wanted a fishing magnet for her birthday.

My problem is that magnets are a prohibited item on the list of NZ Post's prohibited items. But they were posted to me. Please can you define the rules further for me.

Thanks

Kind regards

Jenny
