To narrow down the product range further, simply select from the filters down the left side of the page. You can choose the shape you are after, be it a disc magnet, ring magnet, cylinder magnet or any other. Likewise you can select the coating, grade of magnet and you can even narrow down the products by use. If you are after a craft magnet then you can click on the hobby and craft filter. It is simple and easy to buy magnets online with AMF magnetics.

The majority of the magnets in this range are Neodymium magnets. There are also a number of Ferrite magnets as well as a number of Samarium Cobalt magnet examples.
Neodymium magnets

Neodymium magnets are an alloy of three elements; Neodymium, Boron and Iron. This alloy allows the magnet to not only hold impressive magnetic energy, it also enables the magnet to have a high resistance to demagnetization. Neodymium magnets are quite porous in nature and oxidise quickly in even ambient humidity. Therefore Rare Earth magnets are coated in a number of different coatings that protect the magnet from corrosion. Nickel is the most common coating however there are quite a number of options, all with their own attributes.

Rare Earth magnets are used in a myriad of applications, including many new forms of electricity production. Wind turbine generators depend on rare earth magnets in their mechanical conversion to produce electricity. Many DC motors use powerful Neodymium magnets, these include the motors in electric and hybrid cars.
Even the vibration in your mobile phone is generated using magnets. The rapid and minute movement that creates this vibration is caused by miniature rare earth magnets. Mini magnets are also found in audio equipment such as headphones and speakers. They are used to improve sound quality as well as achieve the full spectrum of the bass.

Ferrite magnets

Ferrite magnets are extremely popular for application where heat is a major factor. This includes many types of motors and generators as they are able to operate in temperatures up to 250 C without losing magnetic power.
Ferrite magnets are also uniquely well suited to machining. They can be machined into forms to suit specific user applications. Unlike with Neodymium magnets that oxidise quickly, Ferrite magnets are already in oxide form and can’t be oxidised further. Therefore they are incredibly stable and corrosion resistant. They are perfect for any marine applications. The key downside of Ferrite magnets is their relative magnetic weakness when compared to Neodymium magnets.

The Pull Force listed for each magnet is based on lifting 10mm thick steel from a horizontal surface. Magnets on a vertical surface (of 10mm thick steel) are generally able to hold around only 30% of the pull force listed in the product description. This is due to the effects of gravity and the lack of friction between the surface and the shiny magnet. Read More
