Neodymium Block Magnet – 6mm x 5mm x 3mm | N45

This N45 Neodymium Block Magnet delivers strong magnetic performance in a compact rectangular shape. Measuring 6mm long × 5mm wide × 3mm high, it is suitable for small assemblies, model making, craft projects and precision positioning applications where space is limited.

Featuring a nickel-coated finish, this Rare Earth block magnet has a stated pull force of 1.27kg and a surface magnetic flux density of 6,486 Gauss. It is magnetised through its 3mm height, placing the North and South poles on the opposing 6mm × 5mm faces.

Key Features

  • N45 Neodymium: Strong Rare Earth magnetic material for compact applications.

  • Small rectangular profile: Easily incorporated into recesses, housings and custom assemblies.

  • Nickel coating: Provides a smooth metallic finish and helps protect the magnet’s surface.

  • 1.27kg stated pull force: Suitable for small holding and attachment tasks, subject to application conditions.

  • Magnetised through height: Magnetic poles are located on the two largest faces.

Applications

This 6mm × 5mm × 3mm Neodymium block magnet is suitable for:

  • Model making, miniatures and hobby projects.

  • Small magnetic closures for boxes and enclosures.

  • Positioning and alignment in prototypes.

  • Craft, display and lightweight attachment applications.

  • Integration into compact components and custom assemblies.

Specifications

  • Material: Neodymium Rare Earth

  • Grade: N45

  • Length: 6mm

  • Width: 5mm

  • Height: 3mm

  • Coating: Nickel

  • Stated pull force: 1.27kg

  • Stated surface flux density: 6,486 Gauss

  • Magnetisation direction: Through the 3mm height

  • Pole faces: Opposing 6mm × 5mm surfaces

Handling & Performance

Neodymium magnets are brittle and require careful handling. Avoid allowing magnets to snap together, as impact can cause chips or breakage. Keep small magnets away from children.

Pull force is a guide rather than a safe working load. Actual holding strength depends on the steel surface, contact area, air gaps, temperature and direction of loading. Test the magnet in your intended assembly before use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are the North and South poles located?
The poles are on the opposing 6mm × 5mm faces because the magnet is magnetised through its 3mm height.

Can this magnet hold 1.27kg in every application?
The stated pull force does not guarantee the same holding strength in every setup. Surface coatings, gaps, steel thickness and sideways loading can reduce performance.

Is this magnet suitable for a small magnetic closure?
Its compact block shape makes it suitable for small closure designs. Confirm the required holding strength and secure the magnet appropriately within your assembly.

The most common coating for Neodymium magnets is Nickel + Copper + Nickel (Ni + Cu + Ni). This coating offers the magnet relatively good protection from corrosion and passive applications. If the magnet will be exposed to moisture or liquid then consider the use of an organic coating such as Epoxy. A hard wearing coating, Epoxy is suited to applications where the magnet will come under some friction or knocking.

Magnets are readily available in Blocks, Discs, Cylinders & Rings. AMF Magnetics specializes in the supply of short-run prototype magnets including Arc Segments, various magnetic orientations etc. If you need a magnet size that we don't carry in stock, submit a Design-a-Magnet enquiry for a quote on your custom magnet design.

Neodymium magnets are offered in several different grades. The first section N30-54 has an operating temperature of up to 80 degrees. Most of our stock only goes up to N38. The second section, denoted with the "M" prefix after the grade has an operating temperature 100 degrees. After this the grades are "H", "SH", "UH" & "EH". In order for the magnet to withstand a higher operating temperature, during production more of the raw material PrNd is incorporated as these elements have a naturally occurring resistance to high temperatures.
