Uses for our Rare Earth cylinder magnets:

Magnets have always played an important part of electronics equipment, including vital communications technologies. Marine radios, like all electronics equipment contain magnets, including neodymium cylinder 25.2mm x 50.8mm magnets.

Magnets find many uses throughout the marine vessel community. Magnets operate without breaching the materials they are joining or holding or releasing at a predetermined pull force. Housed inside many of the winches on sailing vessels ring magnets assist with the smooth operation of hauling and lifting of sails as well as providing fail safe functions to allow winches to release the rope or cable when undue force (gale wind) is applied.

On board kitchen cabinetry use magnets as a secure fastening system allowing the sections of cabinetry to be easily taken apart at known pull forces for cleaning or re-surfacing. Space is at an absolute premium on board most vessels, attaching useful items with magnets, including these popular cylinder magnets or with the aid of self-adhesive magnetised strips for non-magnetised surfaces maximises all and every available space.

Ring magnets with hook or eyelet attachments threaded through them provide options to hang items from walls, soffits or ceilings. As a simple, reliable, durable and versatile space saving and labour saving connective, holding and release connective tissue there really is nothing quite like the magic of magnets and magnetism.

These cylinder magnets are adopted by industries needing a strong pull force (26kg) where space is limited. Electronics and electrical equipment, marine and retail joiners, and industrial designers often reach for these great all-rounders. This cylinder magnet is ideal for general use.

The most common coating for Neodymium magnets is Nickel + Copper + Nickel (Ni + Cu + Ni). This coating offers the magnet relatively good protection from corrosion and passive applications. If the magnet will be exposed to moisture or liquid then consider the use of an organic coating such as Epoxy. A hard wearing coating, Epoxy is suited to applications where the magnet will come under some friction or knocking.

Magnets are readily available in Blocks, Discs, Cylinders & Rings. AMF Magnetics specializes in the supply of short-run prototype magnets including Arc Segments, various magnetic orientations etc. If you need a magnet size that we don't carry in stock, submit a Design-a-Magnet enquiry for a quote on your custom magnet design.

Neodymium magnets are offered in several different grades. The first section N30-54 has an operating temperature of up to 80 degrees. Most of our stock only goes up to N38. The second section, denoted with the "M" prefix after the grade has an operating temperature 100 degrees. After this the grades are "H", "SH", "UH" & "EH". In order for the magnet to withstand a higher operating temperature, during production more of the raw material PrNd is incorporated as these elements have a naturally occurring resistance to high temperatures.
