Neodymium Cylinder Magnet - 6.35mm x 12.7mm

Magnetic Product Description:

This cylinder magnet has a diameter of 6.35mm and a height of 12.7mm or the imperial equivalent of 1/4 inch x 1/2 an inch. It has a magnetic flux reading of 6112 Gauss and a pull force of 1.58 kilos against 3 mm mild steel. It is identified by the AMF magnet part number 21040.

Uses for our rare earth cylinder magnets:

Neodymium Cylinders Magnets such as these are commonly used when long and narrow magnetic fields are preferred. Due to their greater strength to size ratio, Rare Earth magnets have now replaced traditional types of magnets like Alnico and Ferrites in many engineering and mechanical industries. Being smaller and lighter than traditional magnets they are ideal for applications associated with scientific equipment, vehicle manufacturing and specialist Military equipment where weight reduction leads to market-leading efficiency.

Strong magnets, perfect for holding my artworks

Initially I ordered stronger magnets than these but after picking them up from the warehouse I realised they were way too strong for me so I purchased a different kind and returned the original order. Very happy with the new ones, strength is perfect as I use them to hold up my paper artworks onto canvas for photographing. Also allows me to store unfinished works on the canvas and leaned against the wall (my unit is not big enough for horizontal storage of large artworks). The longer length also makes pulling the magnets apart easier. Next time I will probably try a slightly less strong cylindrical type as these are probably still a bit stronger than they need to be. A think a 1kg pull force would suit my needs just fine.

The most common coating for Neodymium magnets is Nickel + Copper + Nickel (Ni + Cu + Ni). This coating offers the magnet relatively good protection from corrosion and passive applications. If the magnet will be exposed to moisture or liquid then consider the use of an organic coating such as Epoxy. A hard wearing coating, Epoxy is suited to applications where the magnet will come under some friction or knocking.

Magnets are readily available in Blocks, Discs, Cylinders & Rings. AMF Magnetics specializes in the supply of short-run prototype magnets including Arc Segments, various magnetic orientations etc. If you need a magnet size that we don't carry in stock, submit a Design-a-Magnet enquiry for a quote on your custom magnet design.

Neodymium magnets are offered in several different grades. The first section N30-54 has an operating temperature of up to 80 degrees. Most of our stock only goes up to N38. The second section, denoted with the "M" prefix after the grade has an operating temperature 100 degrees. After this the grades are "H", "SH", "UH" & "EH". In order for the magnet to withstand a higher operating temperature, during production more of the raw material PrNd is incorporated as these elements have a naturally occurring resistance to high temperatures.
