Samarium Cobalt Disc Magnets (SmCo) - 78mm x 50mm

Magnetic Product Description:

This large disc magnet has a diameter of 78mm and a height of 50mm and is identified by the Amf magnets part number 93007.

Uses for our samarium cobalt disc magnets:

These samarium cobalt discs are not for the faint hearted. Impervious to coercivity (demagnetisation), able to operate at cryogenic temperatures or extremely hot temperatures, resistant to salty, corrosive marine environments, these magnets are very strong for their size and do not suffer fools gladly.

Magnets like these samarium cobalt discs are often deployed in assemblies referred to as magnetic couplings. Magnetic coupling is a coupling that transfers torque, or the correct amount of mechanical power from an engine to a shaft or axle. It does so via the agency of a magnetic field projected through material rather than a tied or absolute connection. This is a powerful and unusual characteristic and is illuminated best perhaps when applied to liquid pumps and propeller systems.

In liquid pumps and propeller systems this method of engagement allows a barrier to separate the wet or marine environment from the dry or regular atmosphere where the motor is operating. Powerful magnetic disc housings are placed on both sides of an impervious barrier to effect engagement and transfer mechanical power or torque. Mechanical power transferred in this way reduces or removes the need for seals that can fatigue under these conditions.

When a powerful fastener is called for in cabinetry or shelving and racking systems in situations where it is helpful to be able to disassemble for cleaning or reconfiguring like in hospitals, restaurant cool rooms and factory and warehouse environments these bold looking samarium cobalt discs are at your service.

Ideal for marine, salt and corrosive environments. Used by specialist engineering and manufacturing companies.
